![]() I've seen multiple real-life racers trying VR-racing and being very excited because the experience and habits you gain are 1:1 transferrable to real life racing (except for the lack of g-forces but that's a whole different matter). If you want to see how the next turn curves to the right, you just turn your head and look naturally in that direction and everything is exactly where your brain expects it to be. You're there! You see depth directly because of the stereoscopic view, unlike on the screen where you usually have to move around to get some limited sense of depth. You're brain doesn't have to interpret a flat image on the screen into a somewhat 3D-like experience. ![]() It's that illusion that makes it perfect for racing because you're there - in the car. Everybody I know who has tried (Vive/Rift) have been very impressed with the experience.īTW, how is VR supposed to work without wearing on your head? It litterally works by blocking out the real world and feeding a seperate signal to each eye and ear to give the illusion of being present in a completely different, artificial reality. The first time I tried VR (HTC Vive) I was blown away. If you can do so with an open mind and without any pre-conceived conclusions, I bet you'd be positively surprised. I can really recommend trying it out under proper conditions. Then you can just make up your own claims like "VR is not ready for prime time" without the hassle of backing it up by anything.
